To the Editor:
I am writing you to express my concerns about the railroad distribution rail yard they
plan to locate on Cone Road in Milan Township. I presently live in London Township.
This facility, if it comes, will be not even a quarter of a mile from my home.
I feel this project is nothing but trouble.
This facility will impact the environment with excessive water run-off with all sorts
of pollution in it. This will affect the natural aquifers and the River Raisin
watershed. There will be lights on 24 hour a day, seven days per week. The
noises alone from 40-50 trucks an hour, seven days per week, 24 hours, would make you
deaf. That does not include the noises from the switching of the trains and the
loading and unloading of vehicles. With all this amount of traffic and trains the
air will be polluted extensively in this country setting. I would like to know who
will police this kind of facility since Milan Township is not a charter township?
Nobody at the township meeting will answer this question.
If this project comes into my community, I worry about my children and their welfare.
With the amount of truck traffic there will be more accidents or mishaps with
children on school buses and on bicycles. With railroad crossing delays it will not
be possible for emergency vehicles to get to an accident in a timely fashion. Then
what?
I feel this will bring more gangs, drugs, and a variety of other crimes in this country
setting. At the present we do not have a high crime rate, maybe that is why we do
not see much of the Sheriff's Department out here. We have good neighbors that will
lend a helping hand.
Please help us protect our environment, our children, and the place that we call home.
